An intense and riveting page turner Complicated family dynamics paired with a difficult romance kept me reeling never mind the twisty turny plot and parade of intriguing characters that might or might not be motivated by evil intent This is Colleen Coble at her gnarliest Throw away your armchair sleuth manual and just sit back and enjoy the tumultuous ride This is book 2 in the Aloha Reef series but it reads fine as a standalone Though if you have read the first book you ll be happy to reacquain [...]

    3. This book is the second novel in a Christian suspense and romance series called The Aloha Reef series, as it is set in Hawaii, and, in addition to that, the books all have at least some connection to the sea, shown either through diving, normal swimming, or boating So, in this book, the main character is Annie, a volcanologist, who has a history with Mano Oana, Kaia s brother, and we get to know her family and her story, which ends happily despite a lot of danger and craziness along the way Anyh [...]

    4. This is another FANTASTIC book by Colleen Coble I am seriously never disappointed in her works Just as with the first book in the series, Distant Echoes, this book grabbed me and didn t let me go until the end View my full review here.

    5. I really liked this book I liked the character, Annie, a volcanologist in Hawaii that uses dolphins to find evidence of upcoming eruptions I liked the mystery I liked the cute mongoose sidekick, Winston I liked the romance build up between Annie and Mano, the Navy guy who was dumped by her much prettier, younger sister The ancient religious cult in town and the wow, I didn t see that coming moments made it fun to read What annoyed me was that the author, for some reason, wanted this to be a Chri [...]

    6. This was a birthday gift and the description sounded right up my alley Coble did get the volcanology in the book correct which made it much of a pleasure to read than most fiction books with volcanoes involved There was some good information about Hawaiian volcanoes in the book The central mystery was pretty fast paced with a lot of twists and turns I did figure about halfway through that someone in the book was involved but I was not sure how until the very end The cult aspect of the book seem [...]

    7. Another great story by Colleen Coble She does a great job keeping the reader guessing throughout the story Coble writes in such a way that makes you question who you think the antagonist is I did feel like the story of Noah and Jillian needed a little bit information, but it didn t detract from my enjoyment of the book.I really enjoy the location of this series Although I ve never been to the Hawaiian Islands, I feel like I m getting a small taste of what it is like I m looking forward to readi [...]

    8. Annie is a volcanologist who is afraid of volcanoes after an accident She loves Mano, but is afraid to be loved She believes she is unlovable and undesirable She takes care of an overbearing father and living with grief over he mother and brother Then life erupts Her brother is not dead, her sister is missing, she can t do her job, and Mano is back in her life The clock is ticking to find her sister, get her brother out of his predicament, and figure out her own future view spoiler I did not see [...]

    9. Thoroughly enjoyable Interesting information about the study of volcanoes, and on Hawaiian history and culture Loved the story.

    10. As in all of the books, it showed an absolutely beautiful way of two people discover God and fall in love in a breathtaking way An absolute must read for any Christian girl who like romance but not the gross inappropriate stuff in teen reads that aren t teen at all.

    13. This was not one of my all time favorite Colleen Coble books I think it was an ok book with an overdone plot I think why I was not too impressed with the book was that it was a plot she s already used in way to many of her books Guy is Christian who is a good little christian and he needs to have a christian wife Ok there is also a murder along the way and someone else goes missing Girl is lost and struggling in life and can t seem to find her way Everyone she know tells her that god is the way [...]

    14. This series takes place in Hawaii Vocanologist Annie Tagama s family is being torn apart by the mysterious death of her mother, presumed death of her Navy SEAL brother, and expectations of her demanding father The only person she can turn to help for is her brother s best childhood friend, Mano Oana who has taken leave from the Navy to make amends to the family for his part in her brother s death Annie has had a long time crush on Mano but he like most men only had eyes for her beautiful exotic [...]

    15. Wow Another great book from Colleen Coble This is book 2 in the Aloha Reef series and I believe it is my favorite so far I really like the character Annie and found I could relate to her a lot The romance was very sweet and didn t feel rushed, and the suspense kept me turning the pages excited to find out what was going to happen next I also loved the message in this book about keeping God first and did not find it preachy at all I found myself wishing I had faith like Fawn s and learned from he [...]

    16. This book is filled with twists and turns that overtake Annie s life and force her to search for her brother Tomi whom they had already thought to be dead and her aloof sister who turns up missing Fortunately she doesn t have to shoulder the burden alone since Mano, Tomi s best friend and Annie s long time love interest, comes back into her life bringing her the news that her brother is still alive Trying to help both her siblings brings and danger as well as and unanswered questions I reall [...]

    17. Another successful and clean romantic, Christian, suspense from Colleen Coble second in the Aloha Reef series So, I was really disappointed that there wasn t in the book about the characters from the first Aloha Reef book But, this book was great in and of itself I really appreciated the multi layering of family issues along with the portrayal of island culture, and especially the fact that the male protagonist wasn t perfect even though he was definitely perfect enough to win the girl s affect [...]

    18. This was an amazing book The start was really slow going but after that I had a hard time putting it down I did however put it down to spend quality time with family over the holidays The story is a continuation of Distant Shores but is based on Mano the brother Mano is helping Amanda find her brother while trying to find her sister that mysteriously disappeared All while trying to hide and accept a medical illness and deal with how it will change his life.

    19. What a great book I did like book one just a little bit better, but that could be because I absolutely love dolphins This was still a really great story though I am always so sad when I finish one of Colleen Cobles books because she has a way of making you feel like you really know these characters Another reason why I love her writing in that she brings characters into her other books from past books I can t wait to read book three

    20. After reading the Rock Harbor series, I didn t think the Aloha Series would be able to compete for my attention However, the second in the series, Black Sands, has changed my opinion The characters are very well developed and the story is both intriguing and insightful While a few of the episodes are a bit contrived, Colleen Coble has done a great job in this book And YES, even men read Colleen Coble

    21. Although not my favorite Colleen Coble series, it was an interesting story I got very tired of Annie s nonstop whining about herself and how her family treated her Mano was very patient with her, but not at all what I think of when I think Navy SEAL Actually, all of the male characters came across as weak Wilson, the pet mongoose, was my favorite character 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

    22. After enjoying the first book in the Aloha Reef series, I was anticpating another intriguing, suspenseful story, and wasn t disappointed I didn t notice this in the first book, but in Black Sands, I thought the dialogue was weak because of the overuse of cliches If the dialogue had been strongers, I would have added an additional star.

    23. Absolutely loved this book I liked it better than the first book in the series, and am immediately delving into book three In typical Coble style, the book has a perfect combination of mystery and intrigue and love and emotion Christian fiction at its best Coble has carved out a niche for writing romantic mysteries they keep me turning the pages until I m finished every time

    24. Great Book This book was full of so much action and interesting facts I loved learning about the volcanos and all the many things associated with them I loved the beautiful word pictures of Hawaiian life The author does such a wonderful job that I want to see it for myself Now on to the next books in the series

    25. I didn t like this one as much as Distant Echoes, but it was still a good thriller The preachiness was a bit much for me, and I felt like Annie could have used a bit of something in fact, I felt like characterizations weren t as strong all around as they might have been But nonetheless, I ll continue on with Dangerous Depths and will probably check out Coble s other work.

    26. I love suspenseful books, and this was one of them I d love to give it a five but I think she rushed the end With everything going on so quickly and some really unrealistic moments that depended on the fate of someones life Almost like she was bored of the book and wanted to just get it over with How ever I love her writing and can t wait to get the next one from the library

    27. I absolutely love Colleen Coble, but this one just didn t do it for me The characters were flat and depressing And way too much about Hawaiian gods for a Christian novel I tried to finish, but I have other things to do.

    28. This is the second book by this author that I have read The story in this book did not move very quickly The first book in the series was fast paced I did do a little skimming to get through the book I will try this author again later.
