    About "Nigella Lawson"

    1. Nigella Lawson

Nigella Lawson is the daughter of former Conservative cabinet minister Nigel Lawson now Lord Lawson and the late Vanessa Salmon, socialite and heir to the Lyons Corner House empire, who died of liver cancer in 1985 Lawson attended Godolphin and Latymer School and Westminster School before graduating from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, with a degree in Medieval and Modern Languages.Lawson wrote a restaurant column for the Spectator and a comment column for The Observer and became deputy literary editor of the Sunday Times in 1986 She became, among other things, a newspaper reviewer on BBC1 Sunday morning TV programme Breakfast with Frost She has also co hosted, with David Aaronovitch, Channel 4 books discussion programme Booked in the late 1990s, and was an occasional compere of BBC2 s press review What the Papers Say , as well as appearing on BBC radio.Following slots as a culinary sidekick on Nigel Slater s Real Food Show on Channel 4, she has fronted three eponymous TV cookery series broadcast in the UK on the channel She has had two series of Nigella Bites in 1999 2001, plus a 2001 Christmas special, and Forever Summer with Nigella in 2002, both of which yielded accompanying recipe books Her style of presentation is often gently mocked by comedians and commentators, particularly in a regularly occurring impersonation of her in the BBC television comedy series Dead Ringers , who perceive that she plays overtly upon her attractiveness and sexuality as a device to engage viewers of her cookery programmes, despite Lawson s repeated denials that she does so.She was voted author of the year at the 2001 British Book Awards More than 2 million copies of her books have been sold worldwide.

    1. So I knew her name But really nothing else about Nigella Lawson I ve seen her cookbooks in friends kitchens that was about it When Shauna Niequist Bread Wine highly recommended her cookbooks for comfort reading I decided to see what was what Sidenote When I told a co worker that Nigella was my new thang , she informed me that Nigella is now d class well, that s not the word she used, but I just learned it from Nigella and needed to test drive it because of personal problems Ah I m always at leas [...]

    2. Gnocchi gratin, saffron orzotto, Tuscan fries, mascarpone ricotta pancakes with run steeped strawberries, meringue gelato cake, pork belly slices with chilli and fennel seeds, chocolate nougat cookies, turkey breast stuffed with Italian sausage shall I go on I have a great admiration for Nigella Lawson, and I think that the foundation of this cookbook is brilliant We all have an Italian cookbook, or have stared longingly at some delicious recipe, but where on earth do you find some of these ingr [...]

    3. Italian food is not high on my list of favourites It almost seems like blasphemy to admit this I don t like capers, olives or veal I did enjoy this recipe book, precisely because it is the Nigella treatment of Italian cuisine She has made a thorough study, kept the best bits, and made the rest out of her extensive technical knowledge of food I like Italian style recipes a lot once they have been run through her filter.

    4. This just didn t do much for me I think that if I had picked it up without Lawson attached to it, I might have liked it better it s a beautiful book, and many of the recipes are simple, delicious and kind of different I love her fascination with black pasta the fig and olive chutney is great and the roast chicken with vegetables, while kind of a no brainer, is totally the kind of thing I wish I d thought of But her intros, which I usually love, just don t feel authentic She s constantly justifyi [...]

    5. I love the recipes in this book I m going to make a lot of them this year and the few I made were a big success already There s one slightly negative thing though I m not keen on the pictures in this book They re rather dark and not always super appetising Oh well, reason to make a recipe I guess

    6. Nigella s usual excellent writing and beautiful photos The pasta section is the most applicable to the everyday cook This cookbook has an unusually large dessert section, which isn t a selling point for me personally.

    7. Yum yumAgain Novella writes and creates magic in the kitchen thatAre fairly easy to do but your waistline might suffer as a result

    8. The Good Stuff Truly stunning photography Love the use of many natural ingredients Plenty of unusual combinations that really workSimple uncomplicated meals The introduction is fabulous and interesting one of the in depth introductions I have ever seen in a cookbook The Shrimp Pasta Rosa is now a main staple in our weekly dinners Its easy and quick to make and the kids love it We also substitute chicken for the shrimp frequently as seafood is seriously pricey in Calgary and don t get me started [...]

    9. Many of the recipes in Nigella Lawson s previous cookbooks are Italian inspired, so it wasn t a complete surprise to learn she was releasing a book dedicated to Italian cooking. The book doesn t stray far from her signature cookbook style simple fonts, gorgeous photography, clear recipe layouts and the recipes are all introduced with some background information and or a personal story from Nigella.Although it s not integral to the cooking part of the book, I love these personal stories before eac [...]

    10. Like many modern mommies, I rely on my Pinterest boards and phone apps for dinner recipes, especially around the holidays The mobile access is critical since I often find myself determining my grocery list while at the grocery store, and clearly would not be lugging six cookbooks with me while shopping So this weekend I was again at Whole Foods, again scrambling on my mobile, again trying to find a recipe one that I d remembered seeing in a cookbook, but was having a hard time pulling up since I [...]

    11. I love Nigella and her quick and resourceful meals and overall practicality However, this cookbook just didn t appeal to me surprising, considering how much I love Italian food The photography was done well and her descriptions and writings are heartfelt and interesting, which made the book enjoyable to read But I only felt enticed to try a handful of the recipes and haven t been particularly wowed by those I did Considering how much my family enjoys many of the recipes from her other books, I m [...]

    12. I have never read one of her cookbooks and I ve read them all where I wanted to make ONE thing This is no different If she ate, on a regular basis, by that I mean day to day, this food She d be as big as a house Dreadful recipes, heavy on pasta, tomatoes and basil Few soups, few appetizers, gooey desserts minus the biscotti Useless I m glad she has an extremely rich husband She can play at this food porn goddess for a few , but for cooking chops skills ingenuity Forget it.

    13. As a rule, I don t often buy celebrity cookbooks or celebrity anything for that matter d even if there are shortcuts and what I would call cheats in lieu of the true authentic ingredient or method of preparation, who can but help loving Nigella in all her gorgeousness and unapologetic honesty That said, there are some rather good, uniquely inspired dishes herewell deserving of a place on my burgeoning cookbook shelf To be honest, the photography alone is enough to make you drool.

    14. The best section of Nigellissima is definitely the cakes baking bit, Nigella really is great at all that but in general, the book just feels a bit too quick cooking and gadgety, she doesn t give alternatives to those who don t have all the gadgets that she uses she also doesn t say who has to wash up after her I normally have the opposite problem with cookbooks, they expect you to soak your own beans etc, but Nigella instead expects you to buy lots of quick short cut ingredients

    15. Delicious, simple and beautiful recipes Love Italian, Love Nigella, Love delicious food and drink this book have it all and it s wonderful for anyone, either beginner or skilled chef The book is also gorgeously decorated, with silk ribbon bookmark, has lots of lovely bright and high quality pictures, and has many notes and tips from Nigella, that are really useful and improves your cooking skills

    16. i love her angle for this book a very personal, cumulative approach to italian accessible, creative, and thought provoking RECIPES MADE 1 easy calabrian lasagna quite easy, quite good a very different mouth feel from typical lasagne, with a fraction of the fuss is in the regular roster now 2 italian tray bake again, super, super easy i made this, and it was devoured gloriously, wholly, messily, by gli italiani high marks will also be added to the rotation.

    17. Three for the food, one extra for the author When recently I trashed a cookbook because it sucked, I was told that wasn t nice Here s how you do it write about food people actually want to eat It helps if you can write, and have shit to say, like Ms Lawson does on account of she s a pro and knows her way around a recipe Publishing is not kindergarten No points for effort.

    18. Have been enjoying cooking and eating my way through Nigellissima since one of my sisters gave it to me for Christmas last year Found the Sicilian Cauliflower Salad pp 124 25 a little fiddly, but other recipes Garlic Mushrooms with Chilli Lemon pp 118 19 great over polenta and Cod with Broccoli Chilli pp 82 83 are wonderful fast and flavourful.

    19. I m rating this book just on pictures alone Gorgeous Her ingredients are pretty much basic Italian So many of these recipes are kinda like the ones I had as a child, but with a up to date twist Her christmas section is out of this world Give me any of these recipes and I will be in heaven.

    20. I m the kind of person who reads cookbooks cover to cover, even the weird pantry parts where the cookbook authors assume you have never actually used your kitchen before, and I couldn t really get through this one The photos are gorgeous, but the recipes all struck me as kind of boring, and the book is poorly edited.

    21. Nigella is always a go to cookbook queen for me Her dishes are beautifully presented, and her style is very easy going but still very much focused on flavour My only caveat with this book is that there are a few repeated recipes here things you have seen online or on shows with her, or at least very similar versions Otherwise love, love, love.

    22. The rare cookbook that you want to read from cover to cover My favorite recipes were the desserts Some editorial problems in the edition I read, e.g the same sentence repeated twice in a row If you don t have a lot of Italian cookbooks, this is a good one to get entertaining stories, beautiful photographs and interesting recipes.

    23. I am a huge Nigella fan her recipes work for me and it s only fair to say I know little about Italian food and don t care much for pasta, but I didn t find much to inspire me in here and a couple of things turned out a bit blah. The hazelnut cheesecake was the best, but I wouldn t make it again.

    24. Total food porn photography, but focuses heavily on the culinary school of fatty mc fat fat This is not how real Italians eat daily it s all celebration or treat food It gives an incorrect perspective into Italian cuisine.

    25. For the most part a cool cookbook I walked away with several interesting pasta dish recipes I will say that this cookbook was loaded down with fish and meats that I wouldn t eat for humane or personal reasons The dessert recipes, including a tiramsu in tini glasses were def keepers.

    26. Lovely book with nice pictures, but most of the recipes are very complicated with harder to find ingredients I chose about six recipes that I felt were easy enough Many of the recipes featured in the show like eggs in hell are not in this book.

    27. I m an avid cook who s addicted to cook books and I keep finding myself going back to this one for new and delicious recipes Every time I make something from this book it s a winner I Love Nigella

    28. She is one of my favorite TV chefs, and I love her recipes That being said there are a few in here that I just can t see myself trying I did find a few I plan on trying out soon that fit my tastes and aren t too complicated.

    29. This book is great I gave it to my Mum for Christmas and we have had some really nice food since It is full of some really interesting food combinations and a few twists on old classics.A great way to get your family eating interesting foods

    30. I have other Italian cookbooks that I like , but this does come off the shelf decently often I like the vegetable and pasta dishes best Generally, the simpler the ingredients the better it goes over There s some repeats or dishes with only slight changes from her other cookbooks.
